It has been a while since I've actually done anything on the webzoo, but today I've made a few small updates and a few little additions which should make the webzoo look a little better. Most additions made today are simple things, but they do enhance the look of the webzoo a little. A few more additions are planned for the near future, including our own little spider that will allow us to find the stuff our monkeys are interested in.
But right now I'm trying to focus on the things I need to do to get married, have lots of paperwork to fix before it can actually happen, but we'll get there eventually. Also the baby that is to come in our lives will need some more attention, so if any of you out there feels like helping out with this little webzoo of mine just contact me.
We all struggle with the same problem: too many account with passwords, and we tend to forget about them, their passwords or even the email address we used to create it. Several nice attempts have been made to help solve this problem, just think of your Windows Live Passport if you have one, but that's not the only solution.
OpenID is a shared identity service, which allows Internet users to log on to many different web sites using a single digital identity, eliminating the need for a different user name and password for each site. And over here we support this! So, if you have an OpenID then you can use it here, no need to make yet another account and password wich you will probably forget about yet again . Aside from Open ID, we also allow you to register using an email-address instead of a username. A bit the way you access several sites from Yahoo or Microsoft. We'll be looking into support for other ways of letting our members register/login with our website, but for now the regular way and OpenID are your only options.
Our Talk-tree is finally online, a little place where we can discuss pretty much anything we like. It''s nicely integrated with the rest of the website, and it will have lots of branches in the near future. It will also become a place where we can talk about our zoo itself, concerning issues and new ideas.
We'll expand it as needed with new branches, depending on the posts that we'll find in it but we'll also give our monkeys the possibility to make requests for new branches to be added. All you have to do is ask, and we'll do the rest for you. At this moment it's still pretty basic, but with the help of our monkeys it should grow, so don't hesitate to talk here! We hope you'll enjoy the webzoo.
I took a little time to have it all configured correctly, but we finally did it. We have added a protection-layer to our webzoo to minimize spam-postings. It would be a shame to waste valuable time cleaning up the mess of those people/companies that seem to enjoy filling websites with useless spam-postings, wich are always way off topic.
We're protected by Mollom, a really cool service that will check every post submitted to our website to see if it is spam or not. We're well aware that, despite the fact this service is really excellent, we're still going to have to deal with the remaining spam posts but those will be a lot less than without the protection of Mollom. We'll keep on improving on the website as we go and you'll be informed of this, so if you want to know what's going on behind the scenes then keep an eye on this blog.
Setting up a website isn't that hard anymore these days, there are plenty of tools that will help you in doing so. But doing it right is just a little harder than most people tend to think (like i did), there are a lot of things to take into consideration depending on what the goal is of your website. The technical aspects of building a website are actually the easy part of it, you can find plenty of resources on this subject on the Internet, so if you really want to learn everything about the available technologies try a little search on one the major search-engines. The really hard part of building a website is to have quality content, things that are interesting enough for others to visit your website more than once, keep things fun for yourself at the same time and keep the expenses of your website within your budget.
I've been living in the Philippines for a little over 1.5 years now, coming from Belgium where everything is so different and much more easier than here. I left all my family and friends behind to come over here, hoping things would be better but so far nothing has been going the way I wished it would. All things considered I can't really complain, I'm finally starting to get settled with my sweet girlfriend who's expecting her first baby. So, you can imagine I've got lots of things to think of and plan for right now. Despite the fact I've been here for some time now, I didn't really get a chance to play tourist yet and I haven't been outside Metro Manila yet (but I plan to), it just happened that I had my priorities set a little different than what most non-Filipinos would have. Still I'm not complaining at all and despite the fact that things aren't always going as planned, slowly the pieces of the puzzle fall into place. I guess that all is going to go better as time passes and with a little effort I should be able to overcome most of the problems I encounter.
